Google stopped showing right sidebar ads and put 4 ads above the fold (instead of 3), pushing organic results farther down. Standard SEO advice is to keep the site architecture as flat as possible, to minimize clicks from the home page to important content. Do not go off the deep end, though; too many links on a page are not good for search engines either. For a search engine to be able to display relevant results
when a user makes a search query, there has to be an
archive of available information for it to select from. This
archive is called an index. Every search engine has its own
methods for gathering and prioritizing content from websites.
Whatever the specific tactics or methods used, this process
is known as indexing. Indeed, search engines attempt to scan
and index the entire online universe. By doing so they can
show you the relevant information when you search for it. Understanding how your website visitors find you will help you determine if your SEO, marketing or networking efforts are paying off, or if you should refocus your priorities.
Content doesn't necessarily mean written words
If you don’t follow the search rankings of your website and don’t know how particular keywords work for your positions in SERPs, you may as well just stop doing SEO altogether. Most SEOs would agree that Google’s SERP features can be a double-edged sword. They can significantly cut into your site traffic if you aren’t featured in one, or they can result in a welcome boost if you are. In SEO, having a decent ‘fresh’ rating doesn’t mean you’ve got a cool new pair of sneakers you want to show off. It’s the practice of updating your content, adding little tweaks to make sure it remains relevant. On page SEO refers to the optimization of a website’s on-page elements. This includes the way a website is structured and coded, as well as its content. As a webmaster, you have complete control over your on-page elements so putting the time into getting them right is important.
The first indication should be navigation
Another tip is to make sure you do your research and examine which terms to target before you set out. I think it's good to have lots of content on the website given the 'long tail' nature of searchers' keyword queries. A site can never have enough content. There is always an opportunity to create new pieces of content, and the newness – or ‘freshness’ – of content is also one of Google’s ranking signals. Googlebot uses sitemaps and databases of links discovered during previous crawls to determine where to go next. Whenever the crawler finds new links on a site, it adds them to the list of pages to visit next.
Add Facebook “Like” and “Share” buttons
Link building is still an important part of your company’s SEO strategy. Instead of trying to get as many links as possible, proper link building now focuses on relationship building and by providing valuable information. SEO marketing can be a very powerful tool for generating massive passive traffic. But if you use it incorrectly, you’ll end up doing more harm than benefit. SEO helps businesses by allowing them to attract more customers to their website and if it's done right – attract them in a way that they also become customers. This is why I pair SEO with 'Conversion Rate Optimization' so that any site I'm doing SEO on also gets improvements in design and development that are intended to make it easy for people to become customers of your business. Gaz Hall, a Freelance SEO Consultant, commented: "Understanding how search engines work is an important component of SEO. The search engines are constantly tuning their algorithms"
Technical SEO analysis is the foundation of any viable SEO program
By limiting your SEO efforts to Google, you might be missing out on some great opportunities for small business growth. SEO is technical, complicated, time-consuming and potentially dangerous. It’s easy to assume that Google already understands the content and relevance of each and every page on your website, but the fact is that it needs a fair amount of hand-holding. Fortunately, helping Google along really isn’t very difficult at all. Sitelinks have the benefit of distributing organic search traffic that would normally be concentrated on your homepage across other areas of your site.
