While it's true that keyword-stuffing will be harshly penalised by Google, intelligent use of on-page tags that help potential customers to find your site remains vital; the margin between the best SEO company and the also-rans frequently lies here. Make sure the site's meta descriptions and titles include both primary and secondary keywords and are unique for each page. All images' alt text need to be keyword optimised and descriptive, without forgetting to optimise video content as well with relevant meta data. You search ranking depends not only on the search term used, but also on where and when you perform the search. You see, when you go to Google.com and type a search, there isn't just one computer answering the name Google.com. If there was, it would have to be the fastest computer ever made. There are just too many people searching, so, each search request is divided between thousands of servers around the world. Frequently, to speed things up, your search will be directed to the server physically closest to you. But, if this is busy, it will be redirected to a less busy server. Use sub-directories rather than sub-domains when possible. Sub-domains do not share link love from the main domain as it is treated as a different domain. One important fact that you need to keep in mind about backlink SEO is that it is not the number of backlinks which matters, but rather the quality of backlinks.

Use a better caching plugin

SEO experts have been talking about mobile technology for a while now. This year, it’s even more important than ever that you sit up and listen to what they’re saying. It’s now extremely common for people to use their mobile devices to perform a search instead of using a desktop or laptop computer. When people conduct research, they want up-to-date, accurate information. That’s why it’s important to keep content updated. Recency is becoming an increasingly important ranking factor in Google’s search algorithm and for good reason—your audiences don’t want to waste time reading dated content. For years SEOs have focussed on the sharp end of the funnel. and for good reason: the search terms with transactional intent bring in revenue. Let’s be clear, these search terms should remain a staple of any website focussed on ROI. Prioritise content marketing. That's publishing valuable content on your website. These can be articles, blogs, white papers, videos, infographics or other interesting information that can be shared with your network via an e-newsletter or social media. Doing this will create backlinks naturally.

Create Better Content

To understand SEO, you need to understand search engines. A search engine is a piece of software that crawls the internet and indexes its pages in order to provide the best website recommendations based on a user's search query. And they use complex, ever-changing algorithms to do that. The authority of the website or webpage linking to your site is also key. A few high authority links are far more valuable then many from low quality sites. When building your content, it’s important to remember to give the crawlers enough to bite into. A hundred words typically isn’t enough copy for these crawlers to read and understand what the content is about. And this content shouldn’t be stuffed with keywords either, as some search engines (as you’ll learn in later sections) punish websites for keyword stuffing. When you are implementing URL parameters, always check whether the ultimate copy changes significantly. You should particularly check on Meta description and titles.

Test different keywords with different pages

Make sure you have content matching what your audience is searching for. Keyword research can be time-consuming, but rewarding when done properly. Make it as easy as possible for users to go from general content to the more specific content they want on your site. Add navigation pages when it makes sense and effectively work these into your internal link structure. We asked an SEO Specialist, Gaz Hall, for his thoughts on the matter: "Google already gives ranking boosts to sites on a secure protocol (https vs. http) and this emphasis on security will only grow as time passes."

Write Interesting and Meaningful Descriptions

Everyone is familiar with the expression “content is king.” Without rich content, you will find it difficult to achieve good rankings with specific keywords and to direct traffic to your website. If you are serious about your website, at least install Google Analytics or any other preferred statistics app. Collect data about your visitors, and find out what the customer journey on your website is. Find out what pages people like and which pages they dislike. Earning a link from a high-quality, relevant website will not only help with your SEO but also with referral traffic, which can lead to more sales and brand exposure. Links within long-form, evergreen content are also more valuable than links in short, news-based posts.
